Borders

A method of containment that uses continuous lines that often form shapes, like squares or rectangles, to break up sections of a page

Why it matters

The bluntest of the containment tools — and the easiest to overuse. Every border is ink spent on structure instead of content; white space and background shifts often group just as clearly while costing nothing to read.
