Cognitive Walkthrough
An evaluation method where reviewers step through a task as a first-time user would, checking whether each action is obvious and its outcome clear.
Why it matters
It forces the question every expert forgets to ask: “would a first-timer even know to try this?” Stepping a task action by action catches the leaps of faith — the hidden gesture, the unlabeled icon — that familiarity has made invisible to the team.
The numbers
- 4 questions per step — will they try, notice, recognise, and see progress?
