Line Height

The vertical space a line of text occupies, measured from one baseline to the next — also called leading. Body copy usually needs 1.4 to 1.6 times the font size to stay comfortable to read.

Why it matters

Lines set too tight blur into a block: the eye needs a clear gap to find the start of the next line, and without it people re-read the one they just finished.

Feel it

Your subscription renews automatically each month, and you can cancel it at any time from settings. Reading this paragraph should feel effortless — if your eye keeps landing on the line it just finished, the leading is doing it.

1.5× — the comfortable range

Drag below 1.4× and you are in the zone the Figma plugin flags — feel the lines fuse as you go.

The numbers

  • 1.4-1.6x — comfortable for body copy
  • Tighter is fine for headings — they rarely wrap into paragraphs

Measured by the Figma plugin

Body text packed tighter than 1.4x is flagged, with a one-click reset to 1.5x.
