Chip
A small, compact element that represents an input, attribute, filter, or action — often used for tags, selections, or removable filters.
Why it matters
The workhorse of modern filtering: small enough to offer twenty options without a wall of checkboxes, tappable enough to work on phones. The failure mode is ambiguity — a chip must read clearly as on or off at a glance, or every filter becomes a guess.
The component
Tap the first three — a chip must read as on or off at a glance. The last two: removable, and disabled.
