Equity-focused design seeks to build products that meet the needs of specific individuals in groups who have been excluded in the past

Why it matters

Universal design aims at everyone; equity-focused design aims first at those historically excluded — because “average user” maths quietly optimises for the majority every time. Designing for the margins tends to improve the product for everyone.
