Information architecture is the framework of a website, or how it's organized, categorized, and structured
Why it matters
IA is the building before the paint: if the structure puts invoices under “Tools”, no amount of visual design makes them findable. It fails silently — users do not report bad IA, they report “I couldn’t find it”, which reads like a search problem and almost never is.
