Type Classification

Why it matters

Classification is the vocabulary that turns 'make it feel more serious' into a decision. Knowing the difference between a humanist sans and a geometric one, a transitional serif and a slab, lets you hear what a typeface is saying before you set a word in it — and gives a team a shared language for why two fonts clash. You do not need to be a type historian; you need enough of the map to choose deliberately instead of scrolling until something looks nice.
