Why it matters

The typeface speaks before the words do — the same sentence reads as a legal notice in one and a birthday invitation in another. It is also a workhorse decision, not just a voice: x-height, weight range, and how it renders at 14px on a cheap screen matter more in product work than how it looks in a foundry specimen. Choose for the interface's worst case — dense tables, small labels — and the headlines will take care of themselves.
