A goal statement describes the product you plan to create and how it will help your users, aligning the team on the intended outcome.

Why it matters

It is the sentence that keeps six months of decisions pointed the same way: who the product serves, what it lets them do, and how you will know it worked. Teams that skip it still have goals — just different ones per person, discovered at review time.
