User-Centric Design

User-Centered Design or User-Driven Development is a framework of processes in which usability goals, user characteristics, environment, tasks and workflow of a product, service or process are given extensive attention at each stage of the design process

Why it matters

The framework version of the UCD philosophy: user goals, context, and workflow get explicit attention at every stage, not just a research phase bolted to the front. The stage-by-stage discipline is what matters — a project that interviews users in week one and never speaks to them again is user-centered the way a postcard is a visit. If a stage of your process could not name the user need it serves, that stage has drifted.
