A person’s internal belief about how something works, formed from past experience; interfaces feel intuitive when they match the user’s mental model.

Why it matters

Interfaces do not feel intuitive because they are simple; they feel intuitive because they match a model the user already carries. Every support ticket that starts “I assumed…” is a mental-model mismatch written down.
