Task Analysis

Why it matters

You cannot streamline a flow you have never written down. Task analysis forces the uncomfortable inventory — every step, every decision, every piece of information the user must hold in their head — and the list is almost always longer than anyone in the room predicted. Once the steps are visible, the design work becomes honest: which ones can you remove, which can the system do, and which are you making the user repeat because your database is organized that way.
